Long ago, a great drought befell a village. A dancer from a traditional family came forth to dance in the Shiva temple for many days and nights. Her dedication to Lord Shiva and the village earn her the respect of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. They bless the village with rains ending the drought. The dancer's dying wish was that a girl from her family must dance on pournami (full moon night) every 12 years in front of Lord Shiva temple.This brings us to present day - another 12th year when the dance will take place. Pournami (Trisha Krishnan), the elder daughter of the family goes missing. Rumors of her eloping are rampant among the villagers, much to her father's chagrin. Savitramma (Bhanumathi Ramakrishna), a wealthy woman living in Delhi, visits her village after so many years and meets her old family friends Sitaramaraju (Mallikarjuna Rao) and family. During his stay at the conservative, traditional Indian household, she gets to know Sitaramaraju s daughter, Ganga (Lakshmi), who shares her love for the village and its culture. Savitramma asks Sitaramaraju to promise Ganga as a bride for his westernized grandson, Srinivasa Prasad / Chintu (Viren Chaudhury). He is convinced that Ganga will be not only a perfect bride but the way treasured Indian values are revived and passed on in her westernized family. Sitaramaraju s family accepts the proposal. Savitramma knows he will have a tough time trying to convince her grandson to marry or even meet Ganga. She asks her foster son, Sagar / Airport (Jagapathi Babu) to help his plan along. Sagar comes to village ahead of Chintu to set the stage for him to meet Ganga, when Chintu arrives, he also acts offensively; sometimes intentionally, and sometimes because he has no idea of anything Indians consider rude or inappropriate. But Sagar, despite his own attraction to Ganga, smoothens the way out. In his determination to help the marriage come to pass, Sagar deceives Ganga about Chintu's character and habits; he assures her that Chintu is a "nice guy"; he also covers up for Chintu s bad habits. Chintu and Ganga agree to the wedding. After the engagement, the families agrees that Ganga should come to Delhi before the wedding. Ganga arrives in Delhi and is hurt to hear her traditional dress and "foreign" manners despised by Chintu's snacky father & mother at a party in her new home. In her new surroundings, her only friend and confidant is Sagar, with whom she begins to form a special bond. Little by little Ganga realizes that Chintu isn't the person Sagar portrayed him to be. He smokes, gets drunk and acts like a bully. Later, Ganga is shocked to discover pictures of Chintu with his girlfriends that clearly show he has had a sexual relationship with them. When she asks Chintu regarding this he misbehaves with Ganga and Sagar comes to her rescue, revolts on Chintu. Chintu reverses the situation before Savitramma that Sagar is trying to marry that s why he is creating misunderstandings between them. Savitramma sends Sagar from the house to their Agra branch. Ganga decides not to marry Chintu and go back to her village. Chintu makes a plan he promises Ganga to send back, before that he will take her to Agra to show her favorite spot Taj Mahal, after reaching there Chintu makes a rape attempt on Ganga however she escapes. Sagar comes to her protection, both of them meet near Taj Mahal and he decides to take her back to the village. Before they reach there, Chintu and his parents create a new story to Ganga s family members that Ganga eloped with Sagar. Ganga s family members beat Sagar very hard and again surrender Ganga to Chintu. Venkat (Prabhas) meets Shailaja (Trisha) on a train journey and they immediately get attracted to each other after dancing in a rain shower. At the same time, Shailaja catches the eye of Bhadranna (Gopichand), a gangster who also becomes infatuated with her. Venkat keeps bumping into Sailaja coincidentally every time it rains and they fall in love. Ranga Rao (Prakash Raj), Sailaja's dad, is a typical black sheep with all kinds of bad habits. Bhadranna approaches him with the marriage proposal and Ranga Rao jumps on that and immediately agrees. Later, a film producer approaches him with an offer for Shailaja to act in a movie. Ranga Rao thinks that acting in films would be more lucrative than marrying her off to Bhadranna. Infuriated Bhadranna kidnaps Shailaja from a shooting spot and tries to change her mind about marrying him. The movie is all about an affair between a stuntman and a student who pursues courses on arts and sculpture. A case of persons of two different thoughts and two extremes coming together. Risk Bhaskar (Jiiva), a stuntman in films, comes across Cinthya (Sandhya), a college student. A couple of meetings help them to get acquainted with each other. Through Baskar she comes to know of the difficulties stuntmen face in their everyday work. Life is a daily risk for them, she understands. Cinthya's care and affection makes Baskar develop love towards her. However coming to know that she is not interested in reciprocating his love, he wants to leave from her life. Missing his company, Cinthya calls on him and urges him to be himself and continue their friendship. Not wanting to miss his company, Cinthya promises to marry Baskar in case if she develops a love towards him in future or if not they would part as friends after sometime. Baskar, a happy-go-lucky youngster, tries all means to impress Cinthya. However, Malar (Anee Malavika), Cinthya's mother, coming to know of their relationship opposes it. Meanwhile, she loses her husband Jayachandran (Nassar), a fire and rescue personnel, while he is dousing a major blaze. Chander and Lata were childhood friends in Jahanabad, Lata being the daughter of a rich family whereas Chander was the son of a poor, widow mother. Lata's parents didn't like Renu being friends with Chander. Renu's family gets transferred to Bombay. At the time of departure, Renu gifts her watch to Chander as a memento. They grow up. Chander goes to Bombay to search Lata. Chander's rich friend Prakash opens a shop for Chander where Chander can earn his livelihood by repairing musical instruments. Prakash's mother doesn't like Prakash spending money on Chander. Lata has turned a writer, her work published under the nickname of "Renu" aka "Renuka Devi", Chander becomes a fan of her work. Basanti is Lata's friend. In one of her novels, Lata writes the story of Childhood friendship of Chander and Lata. Chander reads it and writes a letter to Renu (Lata) to find out how she knows of this story and if she knows Lata, then helping him to find Lata. Reading that letter, Basanti forces Lata to call Chander to meet plotting that Basanti will meet Chander as Lata. Basanti meets Chander there and falls in love with Chander. Chander was carrying the watch gifted by Lata to him all the time, that he looses when Basanti meets him and Basanti locates it. Seeing the watch, Lata recognizes it and recognizes Chander. Basanti feels hurt and blames Lata that she was knowing that Basanti was in love with Chander even then Lata didn't tell her that Chander is the same guy who Lata herself is in love with. The story revolves around Manikyan (Mohanlal), Sreekrishnan(Nedumudi Venu) and Karthumbi (Shobana) and the love triangle between them. Manikyan works for Sreekrishnan and Sreekrishnan sees him like a brother. Once when they both are returning from a Mela after shopping, Sreekrishnan sees Karthumbi and gets attracted. But then a fight erupts there and they all have to flee. Sreekrishnan flees alone while Manikyan has to take Karthumbi with him. At night, he flees in the opposite direction and so loses his way. Karthumbi knows the way back but she pretends as if she does not know it and enjoys the fun. Manikyan has to struggle to get out of that place. Manikyan can not resist because Sreekrishnan is like an elder brother to him. But Karthumbi opposes. When Sreekrishnan gets to know about this, he gets angry and Manikyan becomes his enemy and he tries to take revenge.
