Brahmhdutt (Dilip Kumar), Premchand (Shafi Inamdar) and Mushtaq Ali Khan (Anupam Kher) have been the closest of friends. Against his wishes, Brahmhdutt's daughter Sonu marries a poor man Indrajeet Sabharwal, who is already married to Radhika and has a son Vijay, from the latter. Vijay takes off from home and grows up to be a dreaded Don in the city (Govinda). Indrajeet is given the post of a manager in a steel factory owned by Brahmhdutt and Premchand. Indrajeet first exterminates Premchand and indicts Brahmhdutt for the murder. Brahmhdutt is packed off to prison. Indrajeet now takes charge of Brahmhdutt's business empire and throws the latter's wife Sujata on to the streets. Not satisfied with the ill-gotten wealth, Indrajeet now wants to marry Premchand's only daughter and legal heiress Mohini (Madhuri Dixit) in order to usurp more wealth, but when she spurns him, he hires Vijay to wipe out her existence, little knowing that they are in love with each other. Brahmhdutt, in the meantime, completes his term in jail and on release sets about to reform Vijay. A drama film about a family consisting of Barrister Mohan; his son - CID Inspector Sharad, daughter, Kamla and a school-going son, Munna. Sharad's marriage has been arranged with Karuna, who lives a wealthy lifestyle with her widowed father. On the day of the marriage, Kamla asks Karuna to retrieve some letters that she had written to her former lover, Ramesh Bhatia. Karuna goes to retrieve them but ends up assaulting Ramesh, and returns just in time to get married. Both women promise to never reveal this secret to anyone, as this may break-up the marriage. But soon they find out that Ramesh has been killed and investigations show that the killer is a woman whose name starts with 'K'. Sharad is assigned this case but is unable to proceed, and as a result of his superior, SP Verma closes the file. Peter D'Souza lives in a small town in India. He is an idealistic and honest young man and wants to serve his country by joining the army. He enlists himself and soon undergoes vigorous training under the hands of Major Chauhan (Nana Patekar). After the training, Peter and a group of commandos are assigned to combat terrorists who have hijacked a bus full of passengers. The commandos daringly rescue the passengers, however, Peter is gravely wounded and loses his leg. He is honorably discharged from the army and goes home to help his father run a small corner store. Subsequently, Major Chauhan receives an invitation to attend the marriage of Peter with his long-time girlfriend, Shirley (Madhuri Dixit), which he decides to accept. Upon arrival in the town, Chauhan finds out that marriage is no more happening as Peter is dead. Chauhan is further shocked to find out that Peter's death was a homicide, as enraged gangsters who were unable to extort money from him killed Peter. Malati (Rati Agnihotri), a young girl from a middle-class family meets Suresh Ray (Mithun Chakraborty), who is the son of a well-known lawyer Dayashankar Ray (Danny Denzongpa). After dating each other for some time, she finds that she is pregnant. When Suresh refuses to marry Malati, and she decides against aborting the baby, her parents throw her out and disown her. Left alone, she decides to take Suresh to court. She is supported in this fight by Shakuntala (Rekha), a lawyer who works for woman's rights, who also has an illegitimate daughter from Dayashankar Ray. The case gets much publicity and public support, and the judge rules in Malati's favor. At this point however, Malati refuses to marry Suresh and decides to raise the child on her own. In the meantime, Shakuntala dies of a heart attack, and Malati promises her to take care of her daughter, and carry on Shakuntala's work. Years later Suresh and his wife (Ranjeeta), now married for some years and still childless, run into Malati again. When Kamal leaves for a job outside the city, Mona has Shanta and Sharda thrown out of the house.\n\nWandering on the streets, Shanta and Sharda collide with Kumar's (Manoj Kumar) car, who takes them to his home. Kamal is an employee of Kumar, but the fact is unknown to mother and daughter. Kumar and Sharda start liking each other and he insists that they stay at his place till the mother recovers.
