Bahurani features the story of a landlord who has two sons Raghu, by his first wife, and Vikram, by his second wife. Raghu is a simple-minded and innocent young man. Vikram is cruel, domineering, selfish and greedy. Also, he ill-treats everyone, from servants to his own brother Raghu. Likewise, his mother too is equally cruel to people around her. One day, Vikram has a fight with the Padma, who becomes the first person to ever confront him. Seeing this, the landlord decides to get Vikram married to the Padma. But Vikram refuses and after a series of incidents the Padma is married to Raghu, who she soon realizes is mistreated by her family members. Filled with rage, she stands up for him and defends him, thus making Raghu gain some confidence to fight for himself. Hadbahedi, a small but beautiful town, is forward looking but honest. It competes for resources and recognition with a neighbouring corrupt town, Triphala. Hadbahedians believe that they have been totally neglected by the state and seek an identity. They are lead in this endeavor, by Arun, the local newspaper's proprietor. Things brighten when they discover that the celebrated film star Rishi Kapoor was actually born in their village 55 years back. A grand welcome follows. Chintu arrives with Devika Malhotra, his young and dynamic PR agent. He is a nuisance at Hadbahedi and treats the innocent people of Hadbahedi with contempt. Arun and Devika get along well, their romance blossoming, while ruthless Chintu is falling prey to the tempting monetary and political offer made by Triphala. The town by now has started getting the media and government's attention due to Chintu's stay in Hadbahedi. Chintu with the tempting offer from Triphala, on one side, and Arun-Devika with the townsfolk on the other are at the middle of a see-saw climax, while concurrently, Arun's past unfolds. more»

Kunjoonjamma Thomas (Padmini) is a widow living in the village all by herself. People always make fun of her because she is grumpy and depressed due to the deaths of her husband and her only child. Children irritate her by ringing her door bell and running away. One day, her granddaughter Girly (Nadhiya Moidu), who she had never met, visits her. Initially, Kunjoonjamma does not like Girly, but they soon become close to each other. Kunjoonjamma takes down the door bell, saying to Girly that its only purpose was for Girly's return. Now that Girly is with her, she does not need it. Kunjoonjamma's neighbor, Sreekumar (Mohanlal), falls in love with Girly. One day, Sreekumar's friend, Alexi (Fazil), comes to his house and sees Girly. He identifies her as a girl missing from Delhi, and immediately informs her father (K. P. Ummer) about her whereabouts. Girly had run away from Delhi because she had a brain disease and does not have much time to live. She wanted to enjoy the rest of her life. When her father comes to take her back to Delhi for an urgent operation, she refuses to go, claiming that even the doctors are not sure whether the operation will be successful. Her grandmother mixes sleeping pills in soup and gives it to Girly, and her father takes her to Delhi while she is unconscious. The movie ends with the ambulance slowly fading away into the darkness. Sreekumar watches it leave, and when he turns away he sees Kunjoonjamma refixing the doorbell with the hope that Girly will return one day. more»
