Three burglars get more than they bargained for when a robbery goes wrong and they must kill a couple and kidnap their infant daughter. With the cops searching desperately for the child, the criminals try to stay out of sight, until the baby gets sick. Malati (Rati Agnihotri), a young girl from a middle-class family meets Suresh Ray (Mithun Chakraborty), who is the son of a well-known lawyer Dayashankar Ray (Danny Denzongpa). Left alone, she decides to take Suresh to court. The case gets much publicity and public support, and the judge rules in Malati's favor. At this point however, Malati refuses to marry Suresh and decides to raise the child on her own.
