Yusuf is the son of a prominent and respected doctor in his community and is studying medicine to become a doctor. One day he meets the beautiful Najma and both fall in love. When his father announces that it is time for him to get married, Yusuf is delighted and introduces Najma to his dad. But his father informs him that his marriage has been arranged with Raziya, an illiterate village girl. Yusuf refuses to marry Raziya, but his father convinces him to change his mind, and as a result, the marriage takes place. The story starts with the joining of a new English Teacher Rahul Prakash Udyavar (Shahid Kapoor) in Swaraswati Vidya Mandir school, situated in the outskirts of Mumbai Suburbs. Though he creates an instant rapport with students and teachers alike, he realizes that there is something amiss in this school.
